On October 17th, OTA hosted officials from MTO and the government’s consultants for a roundtable on truck parking in Southern Ontario. This meeting comes out of OTA’s efforts to raise the profile of this issue with MTO and to push for expanded parking options throughout Northern and Southern Ontario.
OTA carrier members and OTA staff provided input to MTO and their consultants working on this project. The meeting was well attended and carriers, OTA, and MTO all appeared to be on the same page identifying both short term and longer term solutions.
The study, to be conducted by SPR Associates, will estimate specific needs for truck rest areas and parking and additional truck parking in Southern Ontario; estimate economic and other benefits of providing more parking for the transportation industry; and recommend ways of improving the availability and quality of Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) parking along Ontario highways.
OTA is pleased with the work that has been completed to date and expects these efforts to compliment the efforts that are ongoing in Norther Ontario that will see additional truck parking added, along with winterizing facilities and other upgrades in key locations.
At this process moves, OTA member feedback will continue to drive our efforts. If there are any OTA members that wish to provide comments on the availability of truck parking in Northern or Southern Ontario please contact operations&[email protected]
