Trucks For Change Network Packs Snacks for Kids Across Canada

Share

Volunteers from 14 Trucks for Change Network companies came together on May 27 to roll up their sleeves for Food Banks Canada’s After the Bell food packing event.

Trucks for Change is an official partner of the annual After the Bell program, which supports children during the summer months when school meal and snack programs are paused. This year, the program will send 220,000 child-friendly food packs to 235 communities across the country. Each pack includes nutritious, shelf-stable items, with participating food banks also receiving support to add fresh fruits and vegetables.

The event was a hands-on example of the Trucks for Change community in action, with people from across the industry working side by side to deliver food where it is needed. Beyond packing, JD Smith Logistics Solutions also provided a certified forklift operator to help unload trucks, stage and load trailers for shipments bound for food banks.

“This initiative provides our network partners with a fun and unique opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to Canadian families and children while engaging in a rewarding team experience,” says Betsy Sharples, Executive Director, Trucks for Change Network. “The food-packing event is an incredible way to bring people together in support of a common cause and helps set the stage for our next important initiative—delivering food packs to 75 food banks across Canada”.

We’re grateful for our sponsors and carrier partners who supported this year’s After the Bell food packing event by packing and palletizing food packs for children and families across Canada.
