Traffic to Remain Impacted on Hwy 401 and Cornwall Centre Road

MTO issued a notice that contract to replace the Cornwall Centre Road Bridges on Highway 401, has been delayed due to “unexpected challenges.”

The project started in 2013 and was scheduled to be completed by fall 2014.

The new westbound bridge in place. However, the old eastbound bridge remains in place with the new one built beside the highway.

MTO says it is not feasible to demolish the old eastbound bridge this year. The contractor is working towards opening Highway 401 to two lanes in each direction and re-opening Cornwall Centre Road by the end of 2014.

Delaying the replacement of the eastbound bridge, means that starting in spring 2015, traffic will once again be impacted on Highway 401 and Cornwall Centre Road. Motorists should expect Highway 401 to return to a one lane in each direction configuration over the new westbound bridge and for Cornwall Centre Road to be closed again in the area of the bridge.

MTO will continue to provide updates as it confirms scheduling details.
