Proposed changes to Highway 401 Westbound collectors from Bayview Avenue to Jane Street

OTA has received notification from MTO of a Detail Design and Class Environmental Assessment Study to be conducted for the rehabilitation of Highway 401 Westbound collectors from Bayview Avenue to Jane Street.

Towards these ends, OTA appreciates the necessity of this project and supports MTO in its infrastructure modernization efforts. However, due to the strategic location of the future work, OTA has provided MTO with comments emphasizing the strong consideration that is needed for the nearly 35,000 commercial vehicles travelling this stretch of the highway daily (401 in both directions) carrying just under an estimated $1 billion in goods. OTA also stressed the importance of considering oversize/ overweight moves which may need to take place while construction is underway.

Proposed elements of the rehabilitation project include rehabilitation of pavement and retaining walls, rehabilitation of bridge structures among other improvements. The construction is tentatively schedules in two phases, the first beginning between 2016 and 2017 and the second between 2018 and 2020.
