Scott Smith, chair of the OTA Education Foundation, announced on Thursday that a new scholarship will be available to students who apply to the Foundation each year for financial help with post-secondary tuition and other fees.

The George P. Ledson scholarship will join the distinguished list of scholarships that have been named after Foundation champions, including Joe Goodman, Charles Hoar, and William (Bud) Barr. The announcement was made during the Ontario Trucking Association’s 89th Convention during the Awards Dinner.

As a longtime board member, Cavalier transportation’s George Ledson, has been a passionate champion of the Education Foundation.

The scholarship recognizes George’s long-standing support, “unwavering commitment to the Foundation” and his “passion, dedication, and outstanding support of our industry and its people”.

George’s 20-year membership on the Foundation Board of Directors ended this year when George stepped down to make room for new participants.

“This is quite a surprise,” said Mr. Ledson when called to the podium to receive his plaque. He thanked Scott and the rest of the Foundation’s board for the honour, and encouraged the trucking industry to support the Foundation’s scholarship program.

Details on the George P. Ledson Scholarship will be released in the coming months, and will be included in the 2016/2107 Scholarship Application Package. For more information on the Foundation, go to www.otaef.com.
