MTO to Begin Detail Design and Enviro Study for Hwy 66

The Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has begun a Detail Design and Class Environmental Study for Highway 66 from 10.6 km east of Highway 624 easterly 3.4 km at Virginiatown. Key features include:

  • Relocation of Highway 66 (2lanes) to the north of North Virginiatown, with a reconnection to Highway 66 west of Kearns
  • Direct connection from new Highway 66 to the existing Highway 66. The existing Webster Street intersection will be maintained
  • Closure of the existing Highway 66 from Kerr Mine Road to approximately 500 m east of 30th Street
  • Two new intersections with the new Highway 66 at 27th Street and 27th Avenue
  • Minor relocation of the access to Cheminis Lodge
  • Closure of 25th Street, 27th Street and 30th Street at the existing Highway 66
  • Retention of the existing municipal pathway along Highway 66 be realigning the pathway along the south side of the ned highway just west of Kearns, including pathway illumination
  • Management of excess contaminated material into berms in designated areas
