The Caledon Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is advising that the Region of Peel has installed a flashing 40 km/h school zone speed limit on Mayfield Road in the area of Mayfield Secondary School.  The implemented change will see the speed limit reduced to 40 km/h between the hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on school days.

This area is also currently designated as a “Community Safety Zone” which is a section of the roadway where public safety is of special concern.  While traffic laws remain the same, fines for moving violations are increased or doubled within these zones.

Officers from the Caledon Detachment have been working closely with the staff at Mayfield Secondary School, the Town of Caledon, the Peel District School Board and the Region of Peel to ensure the safety of pedestrians as well as an educational campaign for motorists. Since February 20th officers have given out over 532 “Operation Heat” positive ticketing vouchers to Mayfield Secondary students. The OPP are working to ensure that students safely walk across the highway by engaging in conversations with them around traffic safety.
