OTA’s Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) committee hosted its first alumni event at Truck World last week for graduates of the association’s Next Generation and OTA-Schulich programs.

The alumni, representing nearly a decade of the successful program, took part in educational and networking sessions. The sold-out event featured a meet and greet with Associate Minister of Transportation, Vijay Thanigasalam. The minister spoke about working together to address industry issues and continuing to support our sector during the fireside chat lead by OTA Chair James Steed and OTA President, Stephen Laskowski.

Guest speaker and presenter, Wissam Al-Hussaini, from the Schulich School of Business, winner of multiple awards for teaching excellence, also led the LEAD alumni through a highly interactive, and thought-provoking discussion on change management, strategy, and enterprise mindset.

The day also included the ability of participants to interact with program grads, walk the showroom floor, and network with industry leaders during a luncheon with OTA Board of Directors and Team OTA representatives, and an exclusive reception with members in attendance to cap off the engaging day.

With a sold-out event, it’s safe to say this inaugural alumni session was clearly in-demand and much desired by graduates. It was a day of engaged learning, active participation, laughter, and shared wisdom. Professor Wissam’s teaching style was impactful and a real treat for everyone. After the session many asked what’s next for LEAD, and I’m happy to say there is much more to come,” says Sukhy Hayre, Controller, XTL Transport Inc., LEAD Committee Chair.

OTA’s LEAD committee will be hosting additional events in the months to come, including at OTA’s annual Executive Conference taking place in October. More details about these events will be shared in the coming weeks.
