The Ontario Trucking Association received numerous complaints last winter from carrier members, particularly from northern and eastern Ontario, regarding poor service performance by winter clearance contractors.
Specifically, members highlighted the high level of snow/ice accumulation before plows would begin clearing roadways as well as the noticeable increase in the number of road closures compared to previous years.
Last winter OTA and other road users expressed their concerns with government regarding winter maintenance. Not long after, a number of contractors were fined for failure to live up to winter maintenance contract standards.
As winter begins, OTA wants to know if carriers believe winter road maintenance standards are once again not being met. We have created a simple two minute survey to express your thoughts on this issue. Send an e-mail to lak.shoan@ontruck.org outlining the stretch of highway you have concerns with, the approximate location, direction of travel, date and time of the observed problem, and the specific issue (snow/ice buildup, road closed/not enough plows etc.).
