Hwy 400 to Hwy 401 Lane Closure Expected to Cause Traffic Delays

Share

Motor carriers are advised to expect traffic delays southbound on the Hwy 400 approaching Hwy 401 for the next eight months.

Already in effect, the southbound Hwy 400 ramp to the eastbound Hwy 401 will be narrowed from two lanes to a single lane for structural rehabilitation of the ramp. The lane restriction, which includes narrowed shoulder widths, will be in effect until Dec. 1.

Long combination vehicles (LCVs) and oversize/wide loads will not be permitted on the single lane ramp during this period due to the reduced shoulder widths.

MTO is asking commercial operators of those vehicles to use alternate routes as a result.

The closure is anticipated to have a big impact on traffic, so much so that the MTO will be installing extra portable variable message signs on the 400 near Rutherford Road and Finch Avenue warning motorists of delays and providing travel information.
