MTO is advising that Highway 401 will be closed at the Boundary Road Interchange starting at 8:00pm on Saturday, April 26, 2014 and will not re-open until 8:00am on Sunday, April 27, 2014. This closure is required to facilitate the demolition of the existing Boundary Road Structure and is subject to change if adverse weather conditions are forecasted. During the Highway 401 closure the following detours will be in effect:
Highway 401 Eastbound – Closed at McConnell Avenue – Exit #792
Traffic on Highway 401 Eastbound will be re-routed at the McConnell Avenue Interchange and will proceed south to Marleau Road. The traffic will be directed easterly on Marleau Road to the intersection of Boundary Road; then northerly on Boundary Road and return to Highway 401 Eastbound at the Boundary Road Interchange (Exit #796). Please note; access to Highway 401 Eastbound will be closed at the McConnell Avenue Interchange.
Highway 401 Westbound – Closed at Lancaster Interchange (County Road #34/#2) – Exit #814
Traffic on Highway 401 Westbound will be re-routed at the Lancaster Interchange (County Road #34/#2) and will be directed via the current Emergency Detour Route. The traffic will be directed to County Road #2 westerly to Boundary Road; then northerly on Boundary Road. The westbound traffic will return to Highway 401 at the Boundary Road Interchange (Exit #796). Please note; there will be no access to Highway 401 Westbound at the Lancaster Interchange (Exit #814) or Summerstown Road Interchange (Exit #804). Access to Summerstown Road from County Road #2 will be restricted to local traffic during the full closure period.
OPP Officers will be deployed during the closure to provide traffic control at McConnell Avenue (Exit #792), the intersection of Marleau Road and Boundary Road, the intersection of County Road #2 and Summerstown Road, as well as the Lancaster Interchange (Exit #814). One additional OPP Officer will be utilized to patrol the detour to ensure that Highway 401 traffic does not leave the marked route.
