Do you want to be part of the “big picture” within your organization? Looking for a path to develop your skills as a leader in your workplace? If so, the time to invest in your future is now. Registrations are open for the Next Generation and OTA-SEEC Leaders Certificate programs!

OTA’s original hit, the Next Generation Certificate program, is once again offering an in-person format for 2022. Delivered by the highly esteemed The Humphrey Group, the program was developed as an intensive leadership communication course for the future leaders of the trucking industry. The intent of the certificate program is to strengthen a leader’s ability to communicate effectively and inspire action in others they work with – from drivers, to customers, to executive teams.

The program has served as a valuable platform for young professionals in the industry to connect and build relationships, network, and meet other likeminded individuals while learning valuable tools to improve their leadership communication skills. Since 2014, the program has graduated over 250 participants.

In addition, OTA will once again be offering a four-session virtual format of the program, which was introduced in 2021. This condensed format is aimed at individuals wanting to better integrate their leadership goals within their busy workday; or are from companies with operations outside the province and who would like to take part in this unique industry program.

All registrants in the Next Generation program must be OTA members in good standing. Members can click to register now to join the program.

Here’s what past grads had to say about the benefits of the program:

“JD Smith has had longstanding ties with the OTA for decades, so when I was breaking through in the industry, it was customary for me to attend various industry events. I can tell you that even with JDS’ connections and presence within trucking, attending these events was daunting. After attending both programs, it became much easier to network and attend these events, but the skills and lessons I learned – getting to collaborate with young professionals in the industry and being able to discuss the challenges and opportunities facing our industry – made my experience invaluable.”

  • Jason Smith, Director of Transportation, JDS Transportation, OTA LEAD Committee Co-Chair.

“The experiences I’ve been able gain from both the Next Gen and the SEEC programs have materially changed the way I do business and how I will continue to do business. The level of networking and education for both these programs is unparalleled in our industry. I would recommend either option to anyone looking to make the transportation/logistics industry part of their core DNA.”

  • Peter Stefanovich, president, Left Lane Associates, OTA LEAD Committee Co-Chair.

After taking a pause due to the pandemic, the OTA-SEEC Business Leaders program, in partnership with the Schulich Executive Education Centre (SEEC) at York University, is back for 2022. Building off the Next Generation program, it focuses on the theme of innovation, with the intention of creating an innovative mindset within leaders and using that experience to drive innovation in the workplace.

Driving Innovation is a key part of the strategic planning process and is the number one strategic driver to help grow any business. Whether it’s launching new products, implementing new equipment, or improving IT systems, this program is ideal for future leaders looking at new ways to create value for their customers and their organizations.

The OTA-SEEC program will also be offered in a hybrid format, where individuals can attend sessions in-person or choose to take part in them virtually. Due to the level of group collaboration involved in the SEEC program, OTA strongly encourages participants to attend all sessions in-person.

All participants in the OTA-SEEC Leaders Certificate program must be graduates of the Next Generation Certificate program to register. Individuals who choose to take the virtual Next Generation program in 2022 and beyond will not be eligible for the OTA-SEEC program, unless the in-person version is taken.

Next Gen graduates that meet eligibility will be sent an email including their unique login ID, which will allow participants to register for the OTA-SEEC program.

To get a better indication of what the OTA-SEEC program is all about, look at some of our group presentations from our last session:

Team 1: How might we deliver what the customer wants before they know they want it?

Team 2: How might we automate company processes to enhance employee productivity?

Team 3: How might we exploit technology to enhance the customer experience?

Eligible members can register at a cost of $1,925 for the in-person Next Generation Program. The virtual Next Generation program is available for $1,350. For more information on both programs, including program delivery and content, click here.

Next Generation graduates can register for the OTA-SEEC program for $2,250. An email invite will be sent to eligible participants with registration info. For more information on the program content and course schedule, click here.

In the event of changing public health measures, OTA staff will work with the training providers to ensure all sessions are delivered in accordance with public health guidance, while ensuring the core competencies of these programs are delivered for registrants.

The Next Generation program begins in June and the OTA-SEEC in May, so register early to reserve your spot. Training is provided in small groups, so space is limited!
