Harper noted that Canada’s transportation system must be efficient to remain competitive in the global marketplace and highlighted several government initiates on that front, such as  the gateway and trade corridor strategy, the federal long-term infrastructure plan, the Detroit River International Crossing and the joint Canada- U.S. Beyond the Border Action Plan.

As well, to ensure the safety of our transportation system, Harper said Ottawa continues to work with provincial and territorial partners on priorities such as fatigue management and infrastructure issues.
