Estimates put the cost of cargo crime to the industry at upwards of $5 billion dollars. This workshop at the upcoming OTA Councils Summit on June 22 will give you the goods on the tools, trends and tips needed to secure and protect your operations.
As part of the much anticipated Summit in Toronto, OTA will present two panel sessions that feature industry experts from the carrier, law enforcement, software -infrastructure and personnel community.
Trends, Best Practices and Regional Differences in Cargo Crime – Carrier and Law Enforcement Community: Members of the law enforcement community are at the forefront of preventing cargo crime in your community. The York, Peel and Halton regional police will present recent case studies and seizures in their regions while highlighting regional differences across Ontario.
Participants will also hear from the carrier community on what they have done to prevent cargo crime in their operations. Industry experts will discuss how to implement the right security measures; maintain a secure facility and personnel; and if theft occurs, what steps you can take to address it.
Strategies, Security – Infrastructure, Software and Personnel –Birdseye Security, Insurance Bureau of Canada (IBC) and Pardon Services Canada (PSC): This panel will feature members from the security, software and personnel field including Mike Grabovica of Council Summit Platinum sponsor Birdseye Security. Mike will highlight security and operational solutions that will create efficiencies in the prevention of cargo theft and reducing yard safety concerns.
Wayne Hummel of IBC is a veteran of over 30 years with the police working with the OPP Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau and Provincial Auto and Cargo Theft Team. Wayne will discuss the IBC Cargo Crime program, current stats, and MO’s of cargo thefts that are currently happening.
Matching employers with the right personnel is important for your businesses. Charles Mercier will describe how PSC can help carriers with the recruitment and retention of drivers by assisting in areas such as criminal background checks, pardons, FAST card applications, and appeals.
These are just two of 16 workshops taking place at the OTA Councils Summit. Cost to attend the event is $50 per person which includes breakfast and lunch and access to all topics being discussed. The networking luncheon will feature David Bradley, CTA & OTA CEO being interviewed by Lou Smyrlis, publisher and editorial director of Truck News, on a wide range of industry topics and issues.
