OTA Hosts Session on Coming Labour Reforms

Share

OTA recently hosted and information session for interested members on a suite of changes coming to the Canada Labour Code (federally regulated carriers). At the session, John Mastoras, who is Senior Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright Canada LLP, walked those in attendance through a number of changes that are coming and provided practical insight on how to prepare. Topics included: flexible working arrangements, overview of new statutory leaves of absence and changes to existing leaves, pay equity, shift and schedule requirements, break and rest requirements among others.

While the Canadian Trucking Alliance (CTA) remains at the table with Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) discussing some of these new changes and their potential impact on the industry, carriers should be preparing for an expected implementation date of September 1, 2019.
