OTA Chairman David Carruth had an opportunity to meet with newly appointed Ontario Minister of Economic Development and Chair of the Cabinet Vic Fedeli and Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon, Minister of Economy and Innovation for the Province of Quebec and Prabmeet Singh Sarkaira, Associate Minister Small Business and Red Tape Reduction for Ontario at a small gathering of business leaders in Toronto this week.

OTA’s message to the ministers was to focus on harmonization between Quebec and Ontario as a means to drive economic growth by reducing red tape, specifically:

  • Enhancing the LCV program.
  • Completion of the twinning of highway 185 in Quebec;
  • Elimination of the ‘Driver Inc’ practice in our industry (an issue interestingly Minister Fitzgibbon was well attuned with and well briefed on).

OTA staff and officers will continue to work with the Premier’s office and his cabinet ministers on these issues and update members accordingly.
