OTA Call to Action: MTO’s DriveON – Equipment Purchases & Formation of OTA Ad-Hoc Committee

Share

Enrollment for Ministry of Transportation’s (MTO) DriveOn program opened on May 9 and the program is set to launch on August 1 .

This program is an important development for improving road safety and air quality and is supported by the Ontario Trucking Association. It will bring significant change to the inspection process for fleets and technicians.

As the August 1 date approaches, there have been questions from industry about the readiness of the program and their ability to meet the new requirements.

Today, your operation would have received a letter by email from MTO outlining how facilities can now order their inspection tablets; who is eligible based on where they are in the application process and how to operationalize DriveON at your facilities in the immediate term as well as other key details and timelines.

MTO recognizes the need to listen to the industry during this transition period and have taken steps outlined in the letter to address concerns raised to date and to move forward in distributing inspection equipment. OTA members are strongly encouraged to review the letter by clicking here:

To track progress as the DriveON program comes to life, OTA has also formed an ad-hoc committee open to OTA members that will meet virtually every Tuesday at 2 pm eastern, starting July 9 to monitor the issues and the implementation process over the summer. This forum will allow interested OTA members to exchange best practices and allow association staff to stay close to the issues that need addressing by MTO.

If you wish to participate on the committee, please register by clicking here.

The results of the committee’s discussions will be shared with the general membership on a regular basis.

OTA is also working with MTO on additional solutions with respect to mobile trailer inspections to fully embrace the capabilities of new inspection equipment and systems with the goal of having those inspection options available later in July.
