Members and non-member carriers alike hailed OTA’s recent Labour Council Meeting as a huge success.
The meeting covered a host of labour, HR and health and safety related topics. Carriers had an opportunity to hear presentations from the federal manager of the Occupational Health and Safety Compliance Unit who provided an overview of current federal labour priorities; Tax experts from Deloitte who provided information for carriers on how to properly handle GST and HST chargebacks to independent contractors; Barb Butler, of Barbara Butler & Associates Inc. who provided a legal overview on the use of medical marijuana in trucking; The Ontario Ministry of Finance which provided an overview of how the province plans to approach the Ontario Retirement Pension Plan (ORPP); And Les Liversidge of L.A. Liversidge, LL.B., Barrister & Solicitors who provided updates on the WSIB’s Rate Framework Review and WSIB’s stance on independent contractor classification.
OTA is in the early stages of planning the next meeting of the Labour Council which will take place in the new year and is seeking feedback from carriers on topics they may want to see coved.
