The Ontario Ministry of Finance notified the Ontario Trucking Association it has resumed processing new and renewal IFTA applications as well as additional decal requests; and that effective January 1, 2021, IFTA credentials will once again be required for commercial motor vehicles travelling within the province.

To be in compliance, carriers must complete the renewal of their registration prior to the end of 2020. As per the IFTA agreement, there is a two-month grace period for the display of the licence and decals, provided registration is completed. The grace period is for the display of renewal credentials only and does not apply to filing the renewal application of those credentials  For full details click here.

While the Ministry’s in-person services remain closed due to the ongoing nature of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ontario, requests for IFTA credentials can be made online, by fax or by mail. IFTA applications and renewals received electronically or through fax will not be completed until payment has been received.

The online application process can be accessed by clicking here and scrolling down to ‘IFTA Licence and Decals’.
