US Customs and Border Protection is investigating options to remove cash collection from primary booths in an effort to improve commercial throughput.
Some ports do not allow cash collection at primary. Other ports may be adopting similar approach. Highway carriers crossing into the US at Port Huron, MI should be advised that as of August 1, 2015 all drivers paying with cash must have exact change otherwise they will be sent to secondary to make payment.
This is an interim measure until November 30, 2015 when all cash payers will be expected to go to secondary for payment. This change aligns USCBP Port Huron with USCBP Detroit where no cash is collected on primary.
