The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) welcomes the official opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge on July 27, marking a significant milestone for Ontario’s trucking industry and the future of cross-border trade.

The new crossing will provide additional commercial capacity, modern border infrastructure, and greater long-term reliability for the Windsor–Detroit gateway, Canada’s busiest trade corridor with the United States.

“The opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge represents an important investment in the efficiency and resilience of our supply chain,” said OTA Chair Mark Bylsma. “Ontario’s trucking industry has long recognized the value of additional border capacity, and we look forward to the opportunities this new crossing will create for carriers and their customers.”

As the bridge prepares to begin operations, OTA is working closely with member carriers, the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority and border agencies to communicate any additional commercial vehicle operating procedures, account registration requirements, and other information as it becomes available.

“We know carriers and drivers are eager to begin using the new border crossing, added Bylsma. “We’re working with bridge officials and industry partners to ensure our members have the information they need for a smooth transition when commercial traffic begins using the bridge.”
