Cab Drivers Call Off Weekend Anti-Uber Protest in Toronto

In case members are not yet aware through media reports, the city-wide taxi protest expected in Toronto has been cancelled for the long weekend.

A last-ditch appeal by some Toronto councillors and tourism officials helped convince taxi industry leaders to call off the protest which would have snarled downtown Toronto arteries during the NBA All-Star weekend.

The taxi drivers are angry over Uber’s mobile app-based ride-sharing service, UberX, which they claim is operating “illegally” in the city.

Although the strike has been cancelled for this weekend, protest organizers warned city officials that if they don’t take action against rival UberX soon, the protest could be back on after the weekend.
