Waterfront Toronto and the City of Toronto are undertaking a new study to help determine the future of the eastern section of the Gardiner Expressway running east of Jarvis Street to approximately Leslie Street.
As a result of work completed thus far, the Deputy City Manager, Cluster B, has recommended to the Public Works and Infrastructure Committee (PWIC) that the elevated expressway be removed, known as the Remove Alternative. However, first PWIC directed staff to better understand the impacts of the Remove option including its effect on goods movement in the city.
Towards these ends, the City has now begun conducting consultations with goods movement stakeholders to better understand the implications of the Remove alternative (which is the city’s preferred option) on goods movement stakeholders, both located in the study area, as well as goods movement stakeholders located outside the study area that use this section of the Gardiner Expressway.
To date, OTA has participated in a diverse coalition or organizations and businesses, which have together cautioned against the removal of this section of the Gardiner Expressway. OTA is now looking for interested carriers to express their views on this issue. Please contact jonathan.blackham@184.107.41.74 for more information.
