OTA attended the first annual Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) Annual General Meeting (AGM) this week, where the 2017 WSIB premium rates were released.
For 2017, Rate Group 570 (General Trucking) will see their rates remain at current levels ($6.72). Rate Group 577 (Couriers) will also see their rates remain at their current level of $3.02. Rate Group 560 (Warehousing) will see a 14% reduction in their rate from $3.45 in 2016, to $2.95 in 2017.
While General Trucking did not see a rate reduction (along with others in the transportation sector), this was the first time any Ontario employer has seen a rate reduction in over 15 years. OTA remains encouraged by this news as well as the WSIB’s Economic Statement confirming that well-performing Rate Groups could also see reductions in 2018 and 2019.
