Update: Detroit Border Delays on FDA-Inspected Goods

Share

OTA has been receiving reports of recent delays at the Port of Detroit for goods subject to FDA inspections. Further discussion with FDA indicate this may be due in part to recent changes in personnel working in various capacities at the port.

Nevertheless, FDA says it is committed to ensuring timely processing of drivers and shipments. Drivers that haven’t had any interaction with FDA and have been waiting at the Port of Detroit for more than 90 minutes have two options: drivers can either call the FDA office at 313-226-5249 with the entry number(s) available to provide to FDA, or drivers may approach the CBP counter.

It is important to note that drivers do not attempt to approach the FDA office, as this is not permitted.

The FDA hours of operation are Monday to Friday:  0600 to 1800 and Saturday/Sunday:  0800 to 1200.

If drivers are waiting in secondary outside of these office hours, it is likely not due to FDA reasons and the driver should follow up with CBP.
