Trucking HR Canada is asking for input so it can gather information on the role mentoring can play to support more women in the trucking industry.
It has launched a survey is part of group’s Women with Drive initiative that began last summer when it conducted surveys with women working in the trucking industry to identify barriers and challenges.
Women who replied recommended targeted mentoring as one of the top three things employers could offer when looking to hire more women, according to Trucking HR Canada, a national partnership-based organization dedicated to developing, sharing and promoting the trucking industry’s best practices in human resources and training.
Last year’s survey results led to the development of a three-year action plan for Trucking HR Canada’s National Women with Drive Advisory Committee. Now, work is moving forward in identifying a model for mentorship that will support women in the industry.
“Mentorship is a proven practice in the area of employee retention. As we work to better support women in the trucking industry, we are exploring different mentorship models. Industry input is critical if we are to identify a practical and effective model.” said Angela Splinter, CEO, Trucking HR Canada.
The survey asks for insights and input on what would work best. It takes approximately 20 minutes to complete, and results will be collected and reviewed by the National Advisory Committee to determine next steps.
The survey is available in both English and French, and participants have until Sept 4, at midnight, EDT, to complete it.

In the meantime, the group said it continues work with its other Women with Drive commitments including its national Women with Drive leadership Summit scheduled for March 3, 2016 in Toronto, identifying best practices and developing workplace tools and procedures for inclusive workplaces.
