Solar Eclipse Traffic Info & Resources for Carriers

The partial eclipse will begin in Canada around 2:07 p.m. EDT this coming Monday April 8 when it enters Canada’s border in southeastern Ontario. Those located on the northeast Canadian portion of the path can expect the sun’s light to begin dimming at approximately 4 p.m. EDT.

OTA has compiled the following travel/regulatory information for members.

MTO

MTO issued memo to inform the travelling public and trucking industry of the potential for significant delays and traffic congestion on the QEW, Highway 401, Highway 403, at border crossings in Southern Ontario, and on all roadways within the solar eclipse path of totality on Monday, April 8, 2024.

Niagara Regional Police Service

To allow for the safety of pedestrians, traffic management, and movement of emergency vehicles there will be planned road closures in the City of Niagara Falls and Town of Fort Erie.
