The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) annual, North America-wide Roadcheck inspection blitz, scheduled for June 5-7, will pay special attention to hours of service compliance.

With the ELD mandate already coming into force in the U.S., enforcement officials there will be looking for electronic logging devices (ELDs) and putting those whoa re not equipped with the devices out of service. (Soft enforcement ends on April 1).

About 17 trucks and buses are inspected every minute during the Roadcheck blitz that covers Canada, the U.S., and Mexico, says CVSA – including 7,713 Canadian inspections last year.

Enforcement teams will largely be conducting North American Standard Level 1 inspections, which involve a 37-step procedure looking at drivers and vehicle fitness alike. They conducted more than 62,000 driver and vehicle inspections during the 2017 event, placing 23% of vehicles and 4.2% of drivers out of service.
