Preparing Ontario Hazardous Waste Carriers for Transition from HWIN to HWP Registry Operated by RPRA

OTA was recently contacted by the Resource Productivity and Recover Authority (RPRA), which asked OTA share the following information with the membership.

In April 2022, the Ontario government finalized amendments to Regulation 347: General – Waste Management  under the Environmental Protection Act that requires generators, carriers and receivers to report information through a digital reporting system currently being built by the Resource Productivity and Recovery Authority (RPRA). The new Hazardous Waste Program Registry will support the ministry’s goal of ensuring that hazardous waste is safely managed, while making it easier for the regulated community to report their hazardous waste management activities. The new Registry will open on November 15th, 2022, will replace the current Hazardous Waste Information Network (HWIN) and will include an online reporting portal and electronic manifesting solution which will be mandatory starting January 1st, 2022.

On August 10th from 2:00pm – 3:00pm, RPRA will be hosting an HWP Registry: Carrier-Focused Information Session. This 1-hour session will help carriers understand how to use the HWP Registry ahead of the launch on January 1, 2023, and how to support generator clients with the delegation process as an authorized generator delegate.

If your business currently operates under the HWIN program and is interested in participating in an information session with RPRA, please register using the link below.
