OTA will convene meetings in a virtual format of its Compliance and Freight Policy Council (formerly known as the OTA Safety Council) beginning September 18, 2020.
Open free of charge to all OTA members in the compliance and operations fields, the Council provides the opportunity to discuss current trucking compliance and operational issues that impact the membership.
“We have a lot to discuss in relation to COVID-19 as well as many other policy items on OTA’s agenda that were lining up prior to COVID, so we look forward to reconnecting with everyone and welcoming new participants to the process,” said Geoff Wood, OTA Senior VP, Policy, who adds that the Council allows members to get more involved with the association, share ideas, network and act as the “incubators of OTA’s policy processes when it comes to compliance and operational issues.”
The virtual environment has proved successful in connecting other aspects of OTA’s business and Wood expects the same for this Council and its ability to reach all OTA members and forge ongoing partnerships going forward.
The first meeting will focus on OTA’s existing policy positions and status of work with the various provincial Ministries and Federal Departments and will provide insights into future policy direction for the OTA. Agendas for subsequent meetings (to be held quarterly) will be made up of items generated by Council members, relevant policy updates from OTA staff and presentations from compliance partners and organizations.
OTA members active in the compliance and operations fields are encouraged to get involved by emailing operations_safety@ontruck.org to register for the Council.
