The Ontario Police Commercial Vehicle Committee (OPCVC) held its spring meeting this week at the Halton Regional Police Headquarters, bringing together a strong turnout of enforcement partners from member police services across Ontario and the Ministry of Transportation.

“We appreciate the opportunity to provide our perspectives on the industry and engage directly with our enforcement partners on key issues impacting the industry” said Geoff Wood, OTA. Sr. VP, Policy. “

OPCVC is comprised of frontline Ontario police officers, including provincial (OPP) and all municipal services that are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified by the MTO. The committee was established to strengthen collaboration between policing partners, the Ministry of Transportation and the trucking industry in support of road safety across the province. OPCVC operates under the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee and conducts initiatives year-round to improve commercial vehicle safety in the province, including joint enforcement blitzes and educational interactions with the trucking industry.

Discussions focused on a range of critical topics, including truck safety, vehicles and cargo theft and ongoing concerns related to Driver Inc. Members also exchanged insights on various other issues such as electronic logging devices (ELDs), Facility Insurance, and safety ratings, highlighting the importance of coordinated enforcement and industry awareness.

OTA will continue to work with OPCVC and its partners to support initiatives that promote compliance, improve safety outcomes and strengthen connections between frontline enforcement and the trucking industry across Ontario.
