OTA Truck Hero Honoured by Prescott Council and Mayor

The town of Prescott honoured local truck driver Laurie Clifford for the bravery and heroism that he showed during a fatal traffic collision last year.

The honour comes a month after Laurie and fellow Bison Transport driver Craig Sutherland were named co-recipients of the 2019 Bridgestone-OTA Truck Hero award at the Ontario Trucking Association’s 93rd annual Executive Conference.

Coun. Gauri Shankar presented the award to Clifford at this week’s council meeting, saying Prescott wants to recognize his quick-thinking action on Highway 17 near Dryden, Ont.

“I just hope that somebody would do the same if it was my friend or family,” he told council.

Ontario Trucking Association president Stephen Laskowski thanked the mayor and council for recognizing Laurie.

“It’s wonderful gesture and sends an excellent message of support to all those hard-working members in the trucking community,” he said.
