The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) named Sukhy Hayre from XTL Transport Inc. as carrier co-chair, and Stacey Large from Trailcon Leasing Inc. as supplier co-chair of its Leadership Education and Development Committee (LEAD) at OTA’s Executive Conference and annual general meeting last week.
Serving for a two-year term, the co-chairs along with LEAD committee members will be responsible for reporting to the OTA Board on committee initiatives, such as creating strategies to engage young professionals in the trucking industry, reviewing program content, and developing outreach/networking opportunities to engage up and coming leaders within the trucking sector, amongst other initiatives.
Committee members were selected based on their participation in OTA’s Next Generation Certificate and OTA-SEEC programs, employment with an OTA member in good standing, and approval through an OTA Nominations Committee process.
“Having worked at XTL Transport for 6 years, I’m passionate about the people who work in trucking, logistics and warehousing, from our all-important truck drivers, dispatchers, and warehouse workers, to operations, shared services, and sales,” says Sukhy Hayre, Controller, XTL Transport Inc.
“I realize that as retirements from our sector continue, our benches need to be built, embracing change and new attitudes needs to occur. Coming from a finance background, we must continue to care about the people in our companies, not just the bottom line,” adds Hayre.
In her spare time, Sukhy enjoys spending time with her husband Tony and daughter Sarina and playing recreational basketball with an amazing group of women at a public-school gym in
“Having graduated from the OTA Next Generation and OTA-SEEC programs, I am honoured to sit as Co-Chair of the LEAD Committee starting this fall for the next two-year term. I am a huge advocate of promoting our industry especially to younger generations and look forward to being a part of some new and exciting initiatives with the OTA,” says Stacey Large, Marketing Manager, Trailcon Leasing Inc.
“I have spent my entire career working within the transportation industry, currently as Marketing Manager, and strive to stay actively involved in various industry associations including sitting on the Board of Directors at the Toronto Transportation Club,” adds Large.
Stacey is a proud mom of two wonderful kids, Brett (9) and Kate (6) and enjoys spending as much down time as possible with them along with her husband Justin.
The committee’s immediate focus will be working on several new projects, including the development of a women’s leadership curriculum-based program, exploring partnership opportunities with organizations such as Trucks for Change and other communities within the trucking industry, and looking into the viability and interest in creating a follow-up to the OTA-SEEC program falling under the LEAD umbrella.
OTA would also like to thank the outgoing LEAD Committee co-chairs, Jason Smith from JD Smith and Sons Ltd. and Peter Stefanovich, Left Lane Associates for their hard work, enthusiasm, and dedication to their roles over the last two years.
Both individuals will remain on the OTA Board as immediate past chairs, joining the current co-chairs as non-voting members for the upcoming two-year term.
