
The Ontario Trucking Association inducted several new members into its Half Century Club and Pioneer Club for 50 years, and 25 years of service, to the industry, respectively.
Inducted into the Half Century Club for 50 years of service to the industry are:
Al Boughton, Trailcon leasing.
Al started on the docks loading docks for Canada Cartage and IEC Holden between 1971 & 1972. Between 79-92 Al joined the Hendrie Group of Companies and left as President of PTR
In 1992, Al started Trailcon Leasing with his partner Jim Wilson. Today the company has six locations with annual sales of more than $100 million and lease/rental fleet 10,000+ units. Al has also been a vital part of OTA’s history, including Chair of OTA’s Allied Trades Division and winner of the Service to Industry award several years ago.
Norm Mackie, Mackie Moving & Storage
At age 18, after finishing high school, Norm entered the family business, running long distance coast-to-coast. Over the next 40 years he worked with his dad, Ross, Aunt Marilyn and three brothers – Paul, Dean and Scott to grow the business to 550 people in 10 Canadian cities. Norm has also be a long time member of the OTA Board, always giving back to the industry he has made a career in.
Jim Gilonna, Newcom Business media
Jim started as salesman for Wadham Publications Motor Truck magazine in 1969. He rose through the ranks to become a shareholder in the company, and publisher of the trucking, automotive and mechanical contracting magazines. In 1987, Jim formed his own company, New Communications Group, which ultimately became Newcom, which today publishes over 30 magazines in multiple sectors. Jim has been a loyal champion of the industry and vocal advocate for the OTA in particular.
Inducted into the Pioneer Club for 25 years of service to the industry are:
- Calvin Bergman, Spring Creek carriers.
- Mark Bylsma, Spring Creek Carriers and current Secretary-Treasurer of OTA
- Stacey Jenkins, Thomson Terminals.
- Nick Nicoloff, Heavy-Duty Parts Inc.
- Brian Robson, Werner Enterprises since 2013.
