OTA honoured its outgoing Road Knights team, who served the industry with pride and respect for the past two years, at a special luncheon ceremony at the association’s 90th Executive Conference last week.
Speaking on behalf of the team during the luncheon was Jim Pereira of Onfreight Logistics. Jim explained how much being a Road Knight has meant to him, excelled his professional growth and provided a renewed sense of pride it gave him for being a professional truck driver.
“Being a Road Knight has not only given me a renewed sense of passion, it has also opened doors for me in different areas of the trucking industry that I had not only thought were impossible, but did not even know existed. The Road Knight program gives a voice to drivers who take great pride in our trade. We are honoured and fortunate to have been chosen to work with the OTA and doing a small part to help our industry.”
For over 20 years, the Road Knights have been a group of men and women who serve as ambassadors throughout the trucking community. Every so often they get a chance to step out of their cabs to meet with the media, community groups, safety organizations, school kids, and car clubs. They play a key role in enhancing public understanding of how to safely share the road with a truck, the professionalism of truck drivers, the critical role trucking plays in the economy and the numerous careers that the industry offers.
Pereira encouraged other companies who are considering nominating a Road Knight:
“Being part of OTA’s Road Knights program has been an experience we will not soon forget. By getting an inside look at the good the OTA and this program has done for our industry, I can only hope that members of the OTA continue to nominate drivers and support future Road Knights.”
Have you groomed a driver in your ranks who can follow in Jim’s and the rest of the Road Knight Team’s footsteps? Now is your chance to support the industry and reward a worthy driver, by nominating a Road Knight for the 2017-2018 team.
Ontario-based drivers employed by an OTA member carrier, with a first-class driving record, are eligible to be nominated for this prestigious honour. We’re looking for drivers with a solid record of safe driving, passion for the industry and a keen enthusiasm for the job. If that fits your driver’s description, please consider nominating them today.
OTA will be extending the deadline to accept nominations until Dec. 16, 2016.
