Role of an OTA Board Member

The OTA Board meets six times a year – twice a year in person and about four times a year virtually. The in-person meetings are approximately 2-3 hours in length and the virtual meetings about one hour.

The role of Board members is to discuss and formulate policy positions that staff will execute at the local, provincial or federal level. Board members discuss and vote on such measures. Board members will also provide feedback and direction on association activities unrelated to government lobby efforts.

The Nominations committee typically looks for individuals in senior/decision making roles for their companies – owner, president, vice-president, general managers.  Previous experience with OTA’s Next Generation/LEAD program will also be considered.

Role of an OTA Executive Member

The OTA’s Executive serves the function of reviewing/monitoring the financial health of the association, which includes reviewing quarterly financial statements, audited statements and the annual business plan. The Executive also approves the funding of special projects associated with government and public affairs matters. The OTA Executive also serves as a senior level committee to provide insights into current policy/public affairs issues already approved by the OTA Board.

OTA Board of Director Representatives on the CTA Board

The CTA Board-at-large members are made up of carriers who are also members of provincial association Boards. The Ontario Trucking Association has 16 members-at-large seats.

All OTA carrier Board members are eligible to be considered for CTA Board membership. OTA representatives on the CTA Board are reviewed/selected by the same approval process as outlined above.
