The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) is celebrating today’s announcement by the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority (WDBA) that businesses can now setup toll accounts in advance of the highly anticipated opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. The WDBA also announced new toll rates for commercial vehicles.

For details on setting up toll accounts and to view the commercial vehicle toll rates please view the WDBA’s news release, along with further information on the Breakaway Toll Discount program and information webinars.

Once open, the bridge will significantly enhance capacity and create redundancy through the Windsor-Detroit corridor, and provide many benefits for commercial truck operators, including state-of-the-art technology to facilitate trade, highway-to-highway bridge access, onsite inspection facilities, while also allowing the movement of dangerous goods by truck between Ontario and Michigan.

The OTA encourages all commercial carriers and businesses to register early for their toll accounts and review the new toll rates, ensuring seamless access and maximum operational efficiency once the bridge opens.

“As Canada’s busiest commercial trade corridor with the United States, the Gordie Howe International Bridge will significantly enhance trade efficiencyand strengthen this vital economic gateway,” said Stephen Laskowski, president and CEO of the OTA. “By registering for toll accounts now, businesses can position themselves to capitalize on the immediate opportunities and efficiencies the bridge will offer.”

Despite recent statements and media reports about the opening of the bridge, it remains a vital infrastructure project and symbol of cooperation between two long-standing trading partners, with the WDBA remaining committed to opening the bridge in early 2026.

“Our members are excited about reaching this key milestone signifying the bridge is close to opening. Undoubtedly, this will lead to the mutual growth and prosperity of both our economies, during a period when fleets and customers need it most,” Laskowski said.
