The Ministry of Transportation reports that Highway 11/17 at the Nipigon River Bridge is scheduled to reopen to two lanes of traffic on Thursday, February 25 by 10 a.m.
The bridge has been operating with only one lane open for both eastbound and westbound since Jan. 11, when an expansion joint failed in the cold weather, raising the bridge deck. MTO and engineers have been working to repair the bridge ever since.
MTO informs OTA that previous weight restrictions have been lifted and the speed limit will be restored to 70 km/h at some point next week (it is currently 50 km/h). In the meantime, drivers are reminded to obey and follow all traffic signage for the safety of both workers and drivers while work continues through the construction zone.
For the latest information on highway closures, the public can call 511, MTO’s Road Information Line or check www.ontario.ca/511.
