MTO expanding DriveON Pilot Program for Mobile Safety Inspections on Trailers

Share

In a notice sent to all DriveON Vehicle Inspection Centres (VIC’s) late last week, MTO is advising they will be expanding the pilot program to conduct mobile trailer inspection to include a total of 50 participants.

The first phase of the pilot that included a small group of participants was launched in August 2024 to improve road safety while supporting the operational needs for trailer fleet operators.

OTA was a proponent of adding this flexibility while using the capabilities DriveON technology to significantly improve oversight of inspection operations. MTO is accepting applications from all active and eligible VIC’s within the DriveON.   The pilot is scheduled to run from April 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026.

VIC’s already in the initial pilot will be required to re-apply if they wish to continue conducting mobile trailer inspections.
