Federal Government Suspends Federal Fuel Excise Taxes

The federal government today announced it has suspended federal excise taxes on fuel as of April 20, 2026.  This will be a temporary suspension until September 7, 2026.

“Fuel is the second leading cost for fleets after labour, and stability in fuel prices is a key tool in the fight against inflation and keeping costs of goods down for Canadians. The Government of Canada also continues to introduce measures to improve truck efficiency and productivity to keep our industry competitive. More federal announcements are expected in 2026 to improve our sector’s supply chain efficiency through the removal of interprovincial trade barriers,” said CTA president and CEO Stephen Laskowski.
