Quebec families and police burdened by unsolved murders and missing loved ones are hoping truckers in the province and well as Ontario can help uncover breakthroughs in those cases.
According to the Montreal Gazette, five families, in partnership signed with three Quebec trucking companies, are installing graphics of the victims or missing on trucks criss-crossing Quebec and parts of Ontario. Each poster is assigned to a route matching the case.
“Thousands of drivers will see them every day,” Stéphane Luce, the campaign’s manager and head of the Meurtres et Disparitions Irrésolus du Québec group, told the newspaper. He likened it to how missing children used to be displayed on milk cartons.
“There are a lot of people who assume these cases have been solved just because they haven’t heard about them for so long. Maybe they know something but haven’t come forward because of that,” he adds. “It’s important people know they’re not solved.”
Organizers are asking truckers and travellers to keep a lookout for the trucks and call police if they have any information.
