The Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Evan Meyers, a longtime leader in the trucking industry and former owner of Meyers Transport. Evan died January 28, 2025 at his Florida home with his beloved wife, Mary Ellen, by his side.
Evan was immersed in the trucking industry throughout his life. Meyers Transport was founded by his grandfather in 1927, and he grew up learning the business alongside his brothers, Larry and Eric. They were behind the wheel by the time they were 15, absorbing lessons from their grandfather, A.J. Meyers, and father, Don Meyers, who had steered the company through the Great Depression and the Second World War. Evan graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Commerce in 1968 and began his career as an analyst with Wood Gundy Ltd. before returning to the family business. He became president of Meyers Transport in 1979. With Evan at the helm, Meyers grew from 20 people into a 500-person organization operating more than 1,000 pieces of equipment. He was also able to bring the fourth generation of Meyers into the trucking industry through his daughter Jacquie Meyers and niece Natalie Meyers, who continue to flourish in the industry today.
Meyers Transport joined the OTA in 1939 and remained the organization’s longest-standing, continuous member until 2017. As a dedicated member of the OTA, Evan served as a director and then as chairman of the board from 1992 to 1994. In 1999, he received the OTA Service to Industry Award, an honor awarded to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, commitment, and vision, leaving a lasting impact on the trucking sector.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Evan was a builder of community, a man who made everyone feel welcome and heard. He was a true storyteller with an endlessly curious mind. He had a twinkle in his eye that could brighten any room. He stood firmly for what he believed in, and his strength, integrity, and easy laughter left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Breaking from tradition, Evan chose to host his own celebration of life in June 2024, where family and friends shared heartfelt tributes and memories with him. As per the family’s wishes, there will be no public service or further celebration of life. A private family interment is planned for the spring.
Condolences may be sent to Jacquie Meyers at jmeyers@mosaiclogistics.com.
Evan leaves behind a remarkable legacy of resilience, leadership, and warmth. His influence and lighthearted presence will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
