The Ontario Police Commercial Vehicle Committee (OPCVC) held its fall meeting Friday in Cambridge, Ont. The event, which invited members to participate in person and virtually, was hosted by OTA member Challenger Motor Freight.

“We are pleased to host and support our police and MTO road safety partners,” said Geoff Topping, Chief People Officer, Challenger Motor Freight. “Today’s meeting provided an opportunity to share the history and scope of our company, demonstrate our commitment to road safety and highlight our approach to on-boarding and professional driver finishing programs.”

OPCVC is comprised of all frontline Ontario police officers, including provincial (OPP) and municipal services that are Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) certified by the MTO. The committee was established in 2009 to build working relations between all policing partners, MTO and the trucking industry to support road safety initiatives across the province.

OPCVC operates under the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Traffic Safety Committee and conducts initiatives year-round to improve commercial vehicle safety in the province, including joint enforcement blitzes and educational interactions with the trucking industry.

“OTA works with OPCVC on a regular basis for the promotion of truck safety and to ensure police forces across the province have a direct connection to the association and its membership,” said Geoff Wood, Sr. VP Policy, Ontario Trucking Association.  “This relationship will continue and today’s meeting is another example of this continued partnership.”
