The Federal Bridge Corporation Limited is sharing an important safety reminder about commercial vehicle parking at the Blue Water Bridge (BWB), as they are seeing an increasing number of truck drivers parking for extended periods of time at the Duty-Free Store on the Canadian side, often waiting for the customs paperwork to be cleared.
While they understand the pressures drivers face while crossing the border, this situation is creating growing safety concerns and operational challenges at the plaza.
The BWB would like fleets and drivers to be aware of the following:
- Duty free parking is limited to 20 minutes. This time is intended for short visits to the store and amenities.
- To avoid unnecessary delays, drivers should not proceed to the plaza until all paperwork has been cleared and they are ready for entry to the U.S.
- Drivers who are out of hours must return to Canada and park at an alternate location.
- Those who park beyond the time limit may be returned to Canada to complete the clearance process off-site. Tolls will be charged again.
To assist with trip planning, the BWB recommends the use of nearby truck parking locations:
- Petro-Pass Truck Stop 81 Ube Drive, Sarnia, ON, N7W 1B6
- Hwy 402 Westbound Rest Area
3850, ON-402, Plympton-Wyoming, ON, N0N 1T0 - Flying J Travel Centre
5906 Oil Heritage Road, Wyoming, ON, N0N 1T0
