The Ambassador Bridge responded to OTA’s request for details about Transport Canada’s emergency repair directive concerning the Windsor-Detroit crossing.
Bridge officials told OTA the repairs were already underway and most of the work is being done in the late evenings and overnight. The work is expected to be completed by mid-September. The bridge says so far traffic has not been affected and it does not expect any delays going forward.
Over the Labour Day long weekend, Transport Canada issued an emergency repair directive to the Canadian Transit Company, which owns and operates the Ambassador Bridge, citing “safety deficiencies” on the Canadian side of the crossing.
The order called for temporary concrete barriers between traffic travelling both ways and the outside curb as a safety precaution.
