Additional focus still needs to remain on getting trucks and drivers moving
In a letter received this morning, the Ministry of Transportation (MTO) has confirmed a registration extension.
Specifically, the letter states:
An additional registration extension is being provided to Ontario IRP Registered Carriers and will remain valid through June 30, 2025. This additional extension means that all Ontario IRP Registered Carriers with plates expiring between March 31, 2025, and May 31, 2025, will remain valid through June 30, 2025. This information has been communicated to the Ontario Ministry of Transportation Enforcement Office, to IRP Inc. and all other IRP jurisdictions.
The letter also highlights improvements made to the appointment scheduling process with a new online tool that will come along with fee notices.
“While the extensions and scheduling tools will provide some relief, our focus needs to getting drivers and trucks moving that have outstanding applications. The costs associated with trucks not being able to move is unacceptable, leaving fleets and a number of drivers grounded, unable to work. During these challenging times, we need everything focused on supporting our drivers and fleets, especially those small business owners and owner-operators who have bills to pay”, said Geoff Wood, OTA Sr. VP Policy.
Full details from the letter (English & French) can be found here. Details contained on IRP website can be found here.
OTA will remain engaged on this issue until the IRP Program is stabilized.
OTA members with outstanding applications that have not been addressed can provide details to operations_safety@ontruck.org . In your email, please provide the IRP Account #, details of the transaction (e.g. add new vehicle), copies of the application documents submitted and any financial details associated with the costs incurred to date. OTA will be analyzing the financial impact as a result of the IRP challenges to determine if a case can be made for future government relief.
