About This Course

This mandated Ontario course leads to essential certification for anyone who handles wheel changes or replacements on trucks, trailers, and motor coaches. Successful participants who complete this modular training program will obtain a certificate from the Ministry of Training, College and Universities. The program consists of 17 learning modules and offers four certification levels tailored to your requirements. Use the “Practical Tire & Wheel Service” handbook as your foundation.

Course Levels

Each of the basic certification levels is very limited in scope and is intended for drivers and other individuals who must perform certain job functions as listed below. Training in these basic levels includes classroom and practical learning. The advanced stream is designed for tire service technicians, people who perform tire service work as a primary part of their job functions. Advanced-level training Participants must be experienced tire service personnel, and the training is offered in the classroom.

Basic I. – Inflation
(Modules 1-3)

Appropriate for drivers and other individuals whose job descriptions require them to re-inflate tires but not to perform any other work related to tires or wheels. Approximately 1 ½ hours classroom and 1 hour practical.

Basic II. – Inflation & Checking
(Modules 1-5)

Appropriate for drivers and other individuals whose job descriptions require them to re-inflate tires and/or perform checks of wheel fastener security but not to perform any other work related to tires or wheels. Approximately 2 hours classroom and 2 hours practical.

Basic III. – Remove and Replace
(Modules 1-9)

Appropriate for drivers and other individuals whose job descriptions require them to remove and replace mounted tire and rim assemblies on their vehicles. Approximately 3 hours classroom and 2 hours practical.

Advanced – Service Technician
(Modules 1-17)

Appropriate for individuals whose job descriptions involve removal and replacements of tires and wheels from vehicles, tire de-mounting and mounting, and tire repairs. Approximately 6 hours of classroom and no practical because all participants must have three months of on-the-job training as a prerequisite.

Who’s This Suitable For?

Any person involved in servicing tires or wheels on trucks, trailers, and buses is required to become certified through this training course. Persons who are not certified are acting unlawfully if they perform this work without first being certified. Tire service personnel, drivers, and technicians, along with their supervisors and managers, need to attend.
