What’s new in this year’s edition?

The purpose of this guide is to help trucking industry employees understand and comply with the requirements and regulations of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.

The Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (TDGA) and its Regulations (TDGR) as well as specific regulatory texts have been amended several times since the last edition of the guide.

This new guide covers all of these changes and more, including the following highlights:

Updated information from Annexes 1 and 2 of the Regulation (contained in Annexes 1 and 2 of the Guide) which reflects all amendments as well as some additional dangerous goods included in the current UN Recommendations (with new UN numbers), but not yet included in the RTMD.

Schedule 1 provides essential details on over 3,500 dangerous goods, including class, packing group, any applicable special provisions or limited quantities, and thresholds for Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAPs). Schedule 2 provides details on over 160 unique special provisions that apply to a multitude of dangerous goods.

Information on the new registration database called the Client Identification Database (CID) for individuals or organizations involved in activities and operations involving dangerous goods in Canada. Registration is required by October 2024, and this section will help users determine if they need to register and where they can obtain additional resources from Transport Canada.

The recently published Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), 2024, which will ensure that users of the guidebook have access to the most up-to-date emergency response guidance and information applicable across North America.
