As part of its weekly Ad-Hoc DriveON committee meeting, a series of questions were posed by OTA members to MTO last week with respect to the rollout of the DriveON program.
MTO has provided responses to the questions which are highlighted below (in italics):
Issue #1 – New Station Applications (who were not MVIS participants previously). We have heard a September time frame discussed but would like more confirmation.
MTO has been working to prioritize the onboarding and transition of existing MVIS stations into the DriveON program even as they are preparing for the inclusion of non-MVIS stations in the near future. The Ministry will continue to focus on this key area and will share a date in the near future.
Issue #2 – Details of Mobile Inspection Process. There is a lot of interest in participating in this option. Primary questions have been what the requirements will be and how can locations and technicians be assigned to participate in this initiative.
MTO has been working to establish the framework for a Pilot for mobile safety inspections for trailers only. The details of this are expected to be shared with the OTA by end of week.
Issue #3 – Information on Limited Brake Inspection process as part of DriveON program.
DriveON Youtube channel – https://www.youtube.com/@DriveONHelpVideos has archived sessions held over past weeks detailing processes to follow as well as many other resources about the program.
Issue #4 – If DriveON tablet and other equipment has been received, and Vehicle Inspection Centres (VICs) are conditionally approved can they start to use and test the equipment
Question 3 FAQ information contained in the July 22nd MTO memo provided as reference.
Issue #5 – Educational enforcement period and continued use of current MVIS sticker stock over course of August if DriveON equipment has not been received.
Question 2 FAQ information contained in July 22nd MTO memo provided as reference.
Issue #6 – Conditionally approved VICs and applications requiring final approval. Seeking additional clarification / outreach on how conditionally approved stations can complete their applications and how MTO will communicate.
The Ministry’s current focus is to ensure stations have the necessary equipment on hand to commence heavy-duty/commercial inspections under the program. The conditional approval will allow time to review MVIS applications to ensure that the integrity of the review process is maintained.
The next meeting (virtual) of the Ad-Hoc OTA DriveOn committee is Tuesday July 30 at 2 pm eastern time. OTA members not already involved who would like to participate going forward can register by clicking here.
OTA will continue to keep the membership updated as information is discussed, and questions answered by MTO during the rollout.
