(TORONTO, Nov. 15, 2024) — Employment Skills Development Canada (ESDC) has created two posters to inform employees and employers of their rights and obligations in regards to classifying workers properly as employees.
In efforts to support the industry in Ontario, OTA was notified yesterday by the Ministry of Transportation that the posters have been sent out to provincial districts and will be posted in the driver area of MTO’s truck inspection stations (TIS).
“The posters send a clear message regarding misclassification. We are grateful to MTO for taking steps to make the posters visible at their TIS locations across the province. ESDC’s campaign to inform employers and employees of their rights and responsibilities under the Labour Code was a good step, but hopefully the federal government will also be following up these efforts by stepping up enforcement of those who violate misclassification rules,” said Geoff Wood, OTA Sr. VP Policy, OTA.
Carriers are encouraged to download the posters, available in both EN and FR at the links below and share with your operations and supply chain contacts.

The posters aim to capture the attention of both employers and employees by providing brief notes on misclassification; and connect through a QR code to detailed information on misclassification and how to report it; as well as a recently published Misclassification in the Road Transportation Industry: Awareness Kit.
In addition to Ontario, ESDC’s Misclassification Team in various regions are also reportedly working to have these distributed broadly, including rest stops and weigh stations in other Canadian jurisdictions.
